GNYC Softball League Inauguration – ApGet ready to kick off another exciting season of faith, fellowship, and competition! Our 4th annual GNYC Softball League Inauguration is set for April 27th, and we’re making it bigger than ever. Expect an electric opening ceremony, special guests including a New York Yankee, powerful prayers, and, of course, the first pitch of the season. Join us as we celebrate the start of a season where softball meets ministry!

Marcos A. Cruz - League Commissioner
Serving as Commissioner of the GNYC Youth Department Softball League since 2023, I have been blessed to help grow this ministry, now entering its fourth season. As an elder at Zion Bilingual SDA Church in Manhattan, NY, and a lifelong Seventh-day Adventist, I am passionate about leading worship and ministering to young people. I firmly believe that softball is ministry, providing a space for fellowship, spiritual growth, and transformation. By God’s grace, two individuals have been baptized as a direct result of this ministry. Guided by the promise of Jeremiah 29:11, I trust that God has a purpose for this league and for every player who steps onto the field.
Pr. Christian Genao - Associate League Commissioner
Now in his second season as Associate Commissioner, Pr. Christian Genao has been an integral part of the GNYC Youth Department Softball League since its inception. As the senior pastor of Jackson Heights SDA Church, he is dedicated to fostering spiritual growth both on and off the field. His team has been part of the league from the very beginning and are the Fall 2024 champions. Pr. Christian firmly believes that softball is ministry—a powerful tool for fellowship, discipleship, and community outreach. With a heart for ministry and a love for the game, he is committed to using softball to build relationships, strengthen faith, and glorify God.
Frank Santiago - Chief Umpire and rules expert
With over 20 years of experience as a professional umpire for both youth and adult leagues, Frank Santiago brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the game. In 2023, he was approached by Commissioner Marcos and invited to join the GNYC Youth Department Softball League, and he has been an invaluable part of the league ever since. More than just calling balls and strikes, Frank plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness, integrity, and a positive experience for all players. He is a trusted resource for league leadership, often advising on rules and helping coordinate the umpire schedule.
Frank firmly believes that softball is more than just a game—it’s a ministry. Through his work, he helps create an environment where sportsmanship, fellowship, and faith come together on the field. His dedication and expertise continue to elevate the league, making an impact that extends far beyond the diamond.
Pastor Enmanuel Contreras - League Chaplain & GNYC Youth Director
Pr. Emmanuel Contraeas is the GNYC Youth Director and a passionate Youth Pastor who loves working with young people. He believes that sports, especially softball, are powerful tools for ministry—building character, fostering community, and sharing the love of Jesus. A lifelong baseball fan, he uses his passion for sports to inspire and equip children, youth, and young adults to grow in faith, connect with their communities, and serve others. His vision is to see every young person actively living out Jesus' commands, making a difference both on and off the field.

Camil - Official Score Keeper
Camil is the Official Score Keeper of the league, combining his love for sports with a deep sense of purpose. A dedicated Red Sox fan, he has a passion for football, baseball, and believes softball is a form of ministry. Outside of the sports world, Camil is an Elder at the Zion Bilingual SDA Church, where he enjoys ministering to young people. He also serves as a Pathfinder staff member, teaching honors in Broadway. Camil’s life is dedicated to inspiring others through both his faith and his love for sports.
